Extraordinary stays for travellers with a bit more mileage
Welcome to Sleep Somewhere Amazing — my collection of unforgettable places to spend the night, seen through the eyes of a 55+ traveller.
If you’ve ever looked at a safari camp, a desert camp, a riad, a glamping dome, a treehouse, or even a raft drifting down a river and wondered:
“Can I still do this?” — this is the place where you’ll find the answer.
It’s yes. And the posts on this page will tell you how.
Why “Sleep somewhere amazing?”
Because if you’re anything like me, you will want different things when travelling than those twenty-somethings in hostels and on night buses. Comfort matters. Access matters. A good night’s sleep matters. And yet the world is still full of extraordinary stays that offer adventure without demanding extreme fitness or fearlessness.
This series brings together the special places I’ve stayed around the world — the ones that feel magical, memorable, and a little bit different — all through the eyes of someone with a bit more mileage. From safari tents with proper beds and private bathrooms, to riads in Morocco full of history and quiet corners – and stairs. From desert camps with comfy beds to river rafts in the jungle… these are the places that prove that adventure doesn’t end once you’ve hit your fifties – or sixties, or long after that.
What you’ll find here
Of course, I will tell you everything about our stays: how we got there, the activities we joined, how the food was, what we experienced… but I’ll also give you some practical detail to help you decide whether you can stay there.
Each feature answers the questions that matter most to us as older travellers:
- How manageable is the terrain and how many steps are there?
- How comfortable is the bed?
- Are the bathrooms easy to use?
- How’s the food?
- Is it noisy at night?
- What should I know before I book?
You’ll find the answers to these questions in an FAQ at the end of each post.
So – care to join me?
